Environmental compliance

KAZ Minerals operates under environmental permits that define annual limits for emissions, water use, and water discharge at each site.

If these permitted levels are exceeded, the Group is subject to charges that are proportional to the amount of excess emissions or usage. These charges serve as a regulatory mechanism rather than a penalty.

In 2024, the majority of charges paid by the Group were administrative in nature and not classified as fines for regulatory breaches. Importantly, these charges were not linked to any environmental risks or to the safe operation of the Group’s tailings storage facilities or other environmental management systems.
