Environment
KAZ Minerals seeks to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment and raise environmental awareness among employees, contractors, and suppliers. The Group’s Environmental Policy outlines its commitment to environmental protection, the reduction of emissions and waste, and the efficient use of resources such as energy and water.
Before developing new mining projects, the Group conducts detailed environmental due diligence. It also monitors the impact of its activities on the environment and publishes key environmental performance indicators annually.
Energy
We are committed to using energy efficiently across our operations and managing consumption in line with our Environmental Policy.
Climate change
KAZ Minerals monitors its emissions and seeks to increase the energy efficiency of its operations, while also maximising copper output. We believe copper will continue to play a fundamental role in the transition to a lower carbon economy. We monitor and report our greenhouse gas emissions according to global standards and actively engage in international environmental sustainability programs.
Water
Efficient water use is a priority. The Group monitors water consumption and is committed to using this resource responsibly across its sites.
Mine closure
KAZ Minerals is responsible for the restoration and rehabilitation of land following the closure of its mining sites. We are committed to rehabilitation of mine sites post-closure. Closure plans are regularly reviewed, with costs calculated and provisions made in financial statements for decommissioning and reclamation.
Environmental compliance
KAZ Minerals follows applicable environmental regulations and incorporates environmental compliance into its operational procedures and monitoring activities.
Biodiversity
The Group recognises the importance of biodiversity and avoids operating in areas with high biodiversity value.
Waste
